Peak Pizza? Domino's Leader Exits Following Pivot Into Chicken.

The chief executive of Domino's Pizza Group who proposed the United Kingdom might have reached maximum pizza demand while expanding the franchise into chicken products has been replaced after tensions with its governing body.

Executive Transition

Andrew Rennie is departing after only 24 months in the top role, and will be replaced on an acting basis by the company's operations head, Frampton, while the pizza giant searches for a long-term chief.

The outgoing executive, who served at the company for a substantial period, had sought to redirect Britain's largest pizza delivery company towards chicken offerings, stating recently there was not “significant expansion” left in the pizza sector in the UK. He observed poultry was the most rapidly expanding protein in the international market.

Board Disagreements

It is understood that there was friction between Rennie and the directors over his focus and direction, although Domino's release said he was leaving “through mutual consent”.

Recent Product Introduction

In September, the chain introduced its chicken-focused product line – which Rennie called a “significant new phase” for the organization – and is trialling it in 210 outlets in the north-west of England and Northern Ireland.

While the business is still going to roll it out across its extensive network in 2026 as intended, it views fried chicken as a supplement for its main pizza offerings.

Leadership Comment

Ian Bull, the Domino's chair, commented: “We are confident that there are a range of possibilities to boost expansion and profitability in the main pizza segment. We are prioritizing selecting the right chief executive to oversee the systematic rollout of that growth strategy.”

Market Difficulties

Earlier this month, the pizza delivery giant, which has a substantial customer base in the UK and Ireland, said orders fell by one and a half percent in the Q3. In the summer, it alerted that the quick-service industry had “grown more challenging” as it attributed reduced spending in the lead-up to the budget and increasing labor expenses for below-target performance and a 15 percent decline in interim earnings.

Competitors are also facing challenges. Pizza Hut revealed the closure of dozens of outlets a last month, after the firm behind its outlets entered insolvency.

Wellness Initiatives

Adapting to customer preferences towards better nutrition, the company has launched lower-calorie options, such as its Thin & Crispy range of pizzas below 400 kcals as well as plant-based and gluten-free pizzas. A family-sized pepperoni has 2,311 calories. A family cheese pizza has 2,171, while a small has under 1,000 calories.

Acting Management

Frampton has been with Domino's since 2021, and previously worked for the gaming group a well-known operator. It is believed that she does not want to take on the top job long-term.

She commented: “Our team has a several active growth and efficiency programs that we will be dedicated to executing at a rapid rate.”

She said these included further work on the company's supply chain and product development, and its loyalty scheme.

The pizza chain is also in need of a permanent CFO until the spring, when a new appointee joins from the Irish cider and beer maker C&C Group. Until then, Snow is temporary CFO.
