Operations Recommence at Scotland's Busiest Airport Following Major Air Traffic Control Outage

A technical fault at the airport's air traffic control meant no planes could enter or leave the hub.

Air travel have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport after a substantial ATC system failure grounded all flights.

All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped after an systems problem that occurred at about 08:30.

Some passengers were left waiting in planes on the runway as the outage continued.

Services Recommence with Ongoing Delays

Officials announced at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "patience and understanding".

That said, significant disruption are expected to affect schedules. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with numerous other services experiencing delays.

Officials had initially projected that dozens of flights could be affected.

"Flyers are asked to get in touch with their carrier for the current status on their individual travel plans," was the consistent advice.

Source of the Issue

The airport attributed the widespread suspension to an systems failure with its ATC service provider.

Flyers are still being urged to check the status of their trip before departing to the terminal as backlogs are cleared.
