Franchise leads Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will return for the upcoming Hunger Games series movie, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.

Reports indicate that fan-favorite actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.

A Major Return to Panem

Lawrence and Hutcherson are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. Speculation suggests their appearance will probably be featured in a brief glimpse ahead, given that the main film series concluded with their characters settled into family life.

This represents the sixth film in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise.

Exploring the New Story

Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a recent book by author Suzanne Collins. It serves as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who directed nearly all the previous films in the series.

A New Era in Panem

The film's events are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.

The supporting roles feature several notable actors in key parts:

  • Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee.
  • Ralph Fiennes takes on the part of a younger version of the calculating President Snow.

What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule

Separately, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson stars in the sequel to the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Regarding the production schedule:

  1. Principal photography began in the summer of 2025.
  2. Filming concluded in November of the same year.
  3. The much-discussed film is targeting a November 2026 release.

Audiences worldwide can now anticipate the return of these central characters to the cinema.
